Waiting Periods

Waiting periods may apply for services covered by this policy. Check the comparison table for each service's specific waiting period - just click on a covered service to see more.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, and are taking out private health hospital insurance for the first time, a waiting period of 12 months will apply before you are entitled to claim for that benefit if you are admitted to hospital due to that condition. Once you have served this waiting period with one fund, you will not have to serve it again if you switch health funds. Read more about pre-existing condition waiting periods in our FAQ

Any waiting periods you have already served with your previous fund will be recognised in full so you can start getting the most out of your new health insurance straight away. Waiting periods may apply for services not covered with your previous fund.

To apply you'll need

  • The details of everyone who will be covered by this policy
  • Your Medicare number
  • Your payment details (bank account or credit card)
  • Details of your current health insurance, if you are transferring from another fund

What happens after you apply

We send your application straight to your health fund using a secure encryption interface. All funds offer a 30 days cooling off period in case you change your mind. At the end of the cooling off period, we get paid and will be in touch to pay your cash back!

Your new health fund will be in touch with your new membership information. If you are switching providers your new health fund will contact your old health fund to manage the transition for you.

What is the cashback bonus?

We get paid when you join this fund:

  • we split anything we make with you 50/50
  • the cashback bonus is your share

No catches:

  • One off payment
  • Government rebate doesn't change
  • No hidden fees
  • No price hikes
  • No lock in contracts

Unlike the other sites we let you compare all policies. Only available at BetterBills!
